Audi officially reveal the new R8 Competition model from LA
The vehicle was confirmed to be produced by the Audi brand a number of months ago and now from the Los Angeles motor show Audi have officially put their brand new R8 Competition model on display for the first time also revealing some of its new specifications and features. The R8 competition will be the last special edition version of the current R8 to go on sale and will be made available in America only. The German brand have also confirmed that the model will only be made available in 60 units only. A new R8 model is set to go on sale in the future and will be available here in the UK. The R8 Competition model has been stated to only go on sale in certain states in the US due to legislation on the laser light technology that the vehicle uses.
Power and performance that the R8 Competition will deliver on
With this model receiving some changes as far as the power and performance of the vehicle is concerned, the engine unit will carry over from the current R8 model but will receives some tweaks which result in a more powerful performance. A total of 562bhp has been confirmed for the car which sees a 20bhp increase on that of the current model in production. Therefore the car will now achieve a top speed of 199 miles per hour with the sprint to the 60mph mark being achieved by the vehicle in an overall time of 3.2 seconds. A seven speed,S tronic gearbox and a new set of carbon ceramic brakes have also been thrown into the mix this time around.
With the official revealing of the car, we can now also see some of the new features that are fitted to the bodywork of the vehicle which make for an exciting car for many customers. A lot of the features on this Competition model will carry over from the R8 LMX model. Features such as a carbon fibre body design,a lowered front splitter and a Black carbon fibre rear wing are just some of the highlights. A set of Black exhaust pipes and Gloss Black wheels are also included.
A future challenge for the R8 Competition
With other sports models being revealed in America throughout the course of this week such as the newly updated Porsche 911 and the BMW X5M and X6M models, we see that the R8 is just another vehicle thrown into the mix amongst its challenging brands. A price tag to come along with this last special edition R8 has not yet been revealed but American customers can expect the first deliveries on this model from the beginning of 2015.
