BMW planning a brand new i5?

Tuesday 18th November 2014 10:38:53

The I range from German firm BMW has became very popular over the course of the past year with the i3 achieving some great success in terms of sales. The i8 is another vehicle in the range that has received some great feedback since being revealed. Now though the latest headlines making their way around the car industry is the addition of FCV vehicles which are all set to make an impact on the car market. Honda officially unveiled their new FCV last week as did Toyota with the new Miria model. There is however some rumours circulating right now regarding an FCV vehicle addition from the BMW brand though which could very well make it onto our roads in the form of a new i5 model. It would make a lot of sense as the BMW i3 is a hybrid model with the i8 being an all electric vehicle. What better way to finish the range of with a hydrogen vehicle?.

What would be expected from a BMW i5 it is to go on sale?

It has been revealed that if this car is to go on sale, it would share the same platform that has been confirmed for the Toyota Miria model. This is due to a joint partnership that has been agreed on by both companies. The key features that are attained by the shared platform would be low development costs and much improved fuel economy for both vehicles. BMW would be a big contender in the FCV market if they are to launch this brand new model and we do believe that the addition of an i5 would put other big brands on notice. Not a lot more is known about the vehicle right now or even if the vehicle is destined to make it into production.

Other companies such as Audi with their hydrogen A7 concept model are expected to be in attendance at this weeks LA motor show. This just shows how focused other developers are on creating FCV models. Mercedes have also confirmed that they are to launch a hydrogen powered B Class model in 2017 also which could also help create a bigger following the FCV division.

FCV models the future of the car industry?

So with many brands joining the fight for supremacy with their FCV models, should they be worried if BMW reveal a new i5 and put it into production in the future?. Our first glimpse at this new FCV model isn't expected to arrive too soon however,BMW may have something to say on the situation this week in Los Angeles.
